Sandhopper Nationals Day One

Published by under Bilge

The event of the year is here and has kicked off in spectacular fashion.

26 yachts have entered for this years sought after trophy and the racing has been tight.

The bookies favorite and   peoples choice for winner this year decided to throw his discard in early and is looking for 2 bullets tomorrow to grab victory, currently lying in 13 place windrush is set to pounce and claim the prize, Duce & McBain refused to comment as they didnt want to give their winning secret away.

Apollo took line honours in the first race with father and son spratt team, we’ve all seen it before and sure enough they were 8th in the second race looking to work their way down the fleet tomorrow but holding second place overnight.

Sandstorms Clarke & Herve are holding 3rd thanks to Chris flogging away at his very stiff Hydes all week,

Undine with the willis Duo deciced to keep the committee boat company in race 2 and parked up for a chat with the race officers which is apparently what past commodores are supposed to do.

wanna be champions Burrell & Beasley are off to a slow start and are praying for more wind.

Aelous have kept very quiet and produced two 5ths putting them in 4th over night, however they will both get ‘Hopperd’ tonight and will slip down the fleet tomorrow.

The Snows caught a very lucky wind shift and have managed to place Zeus in 5th, lets hope their luck lasts.

The big surprise of the day is 707 guru Matt Rainbow and Jonno Gillies, the fleet were concerned that such big hitters would clean up, however 2 DBLs have seen them at the bottom of the table and the rest of us are thinking about the 707 worlds as it must be easy pot hunting.

The main news of the day is Thompson & Dell who in their ‘no expense spent’ campaign are top of the leader board with a 2/1. amazing to see this old boat with knackered sails held together with bits of string and gaffer tape has managed to weave its way into the chocolates and has seen its value triple!! Thompson said he couldnt part with the boat as the 45 seconds he spent getting it ready meant so much to him and money couldn’t replace the fact that he almost broke out in a sweat pumping out the toilet to help reduce weight.

Tonights dinner looks set to be fun with people dodging hopper, looking for pearls of wisdom from the favorites in windrush, watching Spratty start to twitch as he thinks of being the bridesmaid yet again and looking on ebay for 707s.

Burrell & Beasley have decide to swerve tonight and are on a romantic meal for two at the local indian in an endeavour to produce their own wind tomorrow should it prove light again.

Battle has commenced and all is to play for.
