Please can we take this opportunity to thank all involved at TBYC for helping our son Harry Hughes on Sunday 2nd June. He suffered a blow on the head following a collision whilst preparing for the race start. Prompt and effective action was taken by the safety team and an ambulance was called. He received a thorough check over by the paramedics without going to hospital. Harry has fully recovered and will no doubt be on the water at the next opportunity. Thanks for all the messages of support from friends at the club including Nick Elmore who called us at home to express his concern for Harry.
Many thanks and best wishes
Trevor & Julie Hughes

Fantastic news: Alex Warrington, over the Whitsun Bank Holiday, secured a place in the seven strong International Cadet World Team.
Alex Will be Flying the flag for both Thorpe Bay Yacht Club and Great Britain in the World event to be held in Nieuwport, Belgium during August 2013.
After a run of superb results in the Zhic world qualifying series Alex and his crew Ellie Wootton from Waldringfield SC, secured a third place in the Alf Simmonds Memorial Trophy weekend with a strong fleet of 55 entries held at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham-on-Crouch.
Commenting as he stepped ashore after the final race, Alex who has been racing Cadets for the last six years said: “It’s a great class and it has given me an opportunity to sail with my friends and enjoy really competitive racing. I have been training all winter and working my socks off, so I am really pleased to have made it into the team. The conditions here in Burnham were very challenging especially yesterday. There were plenty of wind bends and shifts and generally really tough conditions. Today was a lot better but we had to contend with the tide so it was still challenging. Our plan now is to get in the boat as much as we can and train hard because the entire squad is extremely competitive.
A Hearty congratulations from TBYC Alex – you are an inspiration the the cadets of this club
Good luck and good sailing in Belgium.

A huge thank you to all the club members who gave up their time to help run this event. We had over 50 members helping to run the sailing and on shore management.
The event attracted 92 boats from all over the Country with two boats attending from the Netherlands. In total we hosted over 350 parents and children.
Well done to the 5 Crews from the TBYC Feva Class – who all had a great time and did exceedingly well in this their first Nationals.
The RS Feva Class Association declared the event a total success with many more compliments from parents of visitors.
A proud moment in time for Thorpe Bay Yacht Club.

I have just driven past the Yacht club and noticed Janet clearing the car park and field of rubbish that had been left from the weekend outide the bins and spread around by foxes.
We are so lucky to have Janet.

The Southend Echo has this morning published a story regarding this event. The story is, in our view, totally inaccurate and damaging to the Event and the Sport as a whole. The actual facts of the story are that a competitor capsized his boat and injured himself. He was retruned to shore with his crew and he walked to the awaiting first aid unit of TBYC and was taken to hospital as a precaution, as he was mildly concust.
The competitor returned to the club last evening and is now considering completing the event today.
The event is progressing very well and the final two races will be sailed later today.
