We have supported the Matt Dear Race for Cadets at Thames Estury Yacht Club for several years. It is one of our ‘away’ events that all Cadets who can confidently sail a course can enjoy.
This prodigious Race is in memory of Matthew Dear who tragically lost his life after taking Anabolic steroids, is to raise the awareness of the dangers to young people.
It attracts Cadets from all our local clubs and is well organised with trophies donated by the ‘Dear’ family. There is no entrance fee.
We will hold a meeting on Thursday 15 June at 7.30pm to collect Entry forms and consider/organise transport of boats. I will also brief the Cadets for 30 minutes after speaking to parents.
The Entry form is here
Matt Dear Entry Form 23. Please print it out and give it to me on Thursday.
If you can’t make the meeting, please send the form directly to me. I will then register you.
Programme:
Saturday 17th June:
Transport boats by road to TEYC (There may be support for those sailing to TEYC for experienced sailors and faster boats – TBA)
10.00 Matt Dear Briefing at TEYC
12.00 Race Start (Race lasts approximately one hour)
ACTION REQUIRED
They have asked for numbers in advanced. It would very useful if you filled in this very short reply form ASAP to let me know if you are attending
Let’s have a great attendance this year.

Unfortunately over the weekend clothing has been taken from the ladies changing room. May I ask all members to be vigilant and not to leave valuables in the changing rooms. The back door of the club is to remain closed at all times and not propped open. However this is a good time to remind members that when in sailing attire access to the changing rooms and toilets should always be by the back door to assist keeping the club cleaner and nicer for all members.
If any member has lost items over the weekend please email me direct so that I am aware.
A shame to have a negative post but members need to be aware.
Can I also use this post to say a big thank you to all those involved organising and helping run a very successful regatta weekend in strong winds. 46 boats took part and it was particularly pleasing to see so many cadets out racing on the big course. Well done to all.
