NOTICE ON BEHALF OF RACE COMMITTEE FOR SANDHOPPER NATIONALS 2016 CREW SUBSTITUTIONS
- Regarding crew substitutions, the Race Committee is aware that in some cases crew may not be available on all three days due to work commitments. At the same time we are conscious of the risk of suspicion that crew is varied to suit weather conditions.
- For these reasons we are giving notice that there will be a cut-off date for substitution requests due to non-availability of crew. Such requests must be received no later than noon on Friday 12th This date is chosen to give helms time to confirm their crewing arrangements, whilst being far enough ahead that the weather cannot be reliably predicted.
- Of course the default arrangement should be that the same crew is used throughout the meeting, but if you know you will have to substitute due to non-availability a request should be submitted to the Race Officer, [email protected] no later than noon on Friday 12th August. Please state the reason the substitution is needed and the names of crew.
- Substitutions requested after this cut-off will be dealt with in the normal way, taking due account of the reasons.
If you have any questions regarding the event please contact Mark Robinson on 07957 801 099 or [email protected]

Thorpe Bay Yacht Club is delighted to announce the election of the first female Commodore in the Club’s sixty seven-year history. Beverly Warrington took office following the AGM at the Club on Sunday.
In a brief acceptance speech Beverly said “I very much look forward to being your new Commodore and I am very proud to be the 1st woman to take on this position. I am looking forward to working with the new Committee. I am sure that together we can take the Club forward and make being a member of the club and being a member of the committee something to be proud of. Thank you for all attending (the AGM) and thank you to Mike Thomason and his committee for their dedication to the club and countless hours spent behind the scenes.”

Tony Clarke will continue to ensure our ribs are fuelled and ready for action, although will not be able to undertake his support boat duties for most of the rest 2015.
This will mean that we need volunteers to undertake the vacant RIB helming and RIB launching/recovery duties over this period.
RIB launching/recovery will require volunteers with a vehicle with towing point to deliver and retrieve the two RIBs between the clubhouse and the slipway on each occasion.
If you are helming or crewing a rib, you will need to ensure it is washed down, rinsed through and the cover and clamp on.
Please can those members with suitable vehicles volunteer for one or more occasions. You can volunteer through Dutyman ( a new duty of RIB launch/recovery has been added) or contact Graham Dare ( [email protected], 07946 413923)
Clearly, if we cannot get enough volunteers for RIB launching/recovery we will need to review our sailing programme.
Thank you in anticipation of your help.

What a great Cadet Week! This week always brings challenges for the leaders, and this year it was the weather that provided some real drama. Brilliant planning and resilience shown by all those operating from the beach allowed for a splendid week of activities for our huge cadet fleet. It was easier for us offshore with the older cadets in Sharks, but only because they are such a magnificent group of young adults with a real love of sailing and the personal courage and determination to match. I would like to thank all those at Canvey Island Yacht Club for making us so welcome during our overnight camp, particularly to Sheila and her team who catered for us so wonderfully! We could not operate any activities, and certainly not support a trip down the estuary in 30mph winds, without the support of our highly professional and dedicated rescue support. As a result of this support, we all had an amazing time! Special thanks to Barry and Mick for their invaluable support negotiating the intricacies of Smallgains Creek and all things Canvey!
I must also add my thanks for the consistent support from Peter Thompson, both in terms of his immense wisdom, which was very useful in helping to plan the week, but also in terms of his generosity, lending us brand new paddleboards and inflatable windsurfers, from Wetsuit Outlet, which made our day in the Ray a really wonderful experience.
Lastly, thanks again to Mark Petty Mayor, for the work he has put into making the Cadet section the success it has been throughout his term of office…we all owe him a huge debt for carrying the cadet torch for the last three years.
