DINGHY PARK 2021

Evening Sailors,

From tomorrow, All Dinghies and Catamarans that have paid for this seasons storage can bring their boats into the Dinghy Park. With no main access to the Clubhouse, viewing the printed plan cannot be public so it is located inside the building within the area of the back door, same access for toilets.

You can also review online using the link that has been in the the recent email and posted within the TBYC Facebook Group.

The Dinghy Park plan is always an active document with boats being bought and sold. In an effort to keep the document up to date, if you arrange to swap with someone and your boat is in a different space, please let me know by emailing [email protected] or commenting on the google doc.

We have a full programme of training and races organised this season for our Cadets, as published in the Handbook & Programme of Events 2021.

On most Sundays there is Cadet Training and Races for Cadets of all ages. It is suitable for sailors who can sail a triangular course, sail to the training area safely and willing to listen and learn.

I hope to see you. New sailors welcome. This is not beginner’s sail training, sailors need sailing skills and confidence to sail alone.

Cadet Race Training Sunday 4/4/2021

Published by under Cadets

Cadets and Parents!

Our first session is on Sunday 4th of April.

Please, sign up on this google sheet:

https://forms.gle/nqar7htBn6VUi2s57

Be ready to launch rigged and changed on the beach at 16:00.

Changing rooms are closed.

I suggest you come with sailing gear on.

Dress up warm, many layers, fleece, winter hat, gloves …

The theme is: Sail with your sail!

Two pencil marks will be laid. You must sail between the two. You must not sail beyond these marks.

Warm up: reach between the two marks, tack around each end. Sheet in , then let the sail out, try different sail settings. Which one makes you sail the fastest?

Drill one: Stopping on the whistle. Sail up and down between the marks. Turn head to wind when I blow the whistle. When I whistle again, grab the boom, pull it well in over the side you are sitting on. The boat will turn away from the wind. Get going again.

Drill two: Keep sailing up and down between the two marks. I will ask one boat to stop. Their task is to accelerate just at the right time and sail side to side with the next boat passing by. Try to match their speed. They should help by adjusting their speed.  How can you go faster? How can you slow down a little?

Drill three: stop on the whistle by letting your sail out to flap.  Do not turn head to wind. On the second whistle tack your boat around by sheeting in very quickly with two hands. Do not hold he tiller! Then get going

Race: stop on the line (between the mark and my rib). I will count down 1 minute. Start on the whistle, sail to the next mark, sail around, come back through the line.

Game: Collect the floating white milk can and bring it to me. You will get a reward. Then sail alongside a friendly boat and pass them the milk can. They shall bring the can to me for a reward.

See you on the water:

Cadet Representative

Dear Members

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself as this year Cadet Representative.  My name is Lindsay and as many of you may know I have been an active member of the Cadet Committee for some years. I have 3 daughters who all loving being out on the water and participate regularly in both cadet and club sailing!  I have spent many hours in the water launching and recovering boats!!

I would like to thank Jeremy for all his hard work over the past years and sorry we could not mark his last year in a more memorable way due to the pandemic.  I am really looking forward to supporting the Cadets in getting the most out of the club developing skills and confidence on the water with the support of the parents.

Cadet Rep is not a job for one person and I am grateful to have received many offers of support but I will be seeking more over the year. Please keep an eye out for emails, website and Facebook updates!

I am very lucky to have Andras Gal, Nick Alston and Peter Quinten ready to provide a jammed pack Cadet sail training programme when restrictions allow for Cadets who are able to sail a basic course.   All the dates and times will be published in the club programme.

Conrad Stevenson has been able to arrange some Feva training for the older cadets (with their own boat) and we hope that this is something that can be developed in the future to enhance the fleet.  If you or older cadets would like to be added to the WhatsApp group please email Janet with your details and she will forward them appropriately.  We do have access to one club Feva but that will need to be allocated in advance to avoid disappointment (details to be confirmed).

Unfortunately, due to restrictions of some sort remaining in December the Cadet Christmas party will not be possible this year but I will endeavour to provide future events as soon as possible.

Look forward to seeing you all soon.
