Additional cadet session this Saturday

Published by under Cadets,Club Notices

Session full! If another session is possible we will prioritise those who couldn’t attend this weekend 😊

Saturday 18th June meeting at 13.30 on the beach rigged and changed

Andras and Mark D will be offering an additional small group session for up to 8 cadets who are transitioning to Piranhas for Cadet Week or who Piranhas who have not been on the water this year. If places remain they can be allocated to any cadet who expresses an interest.

If there is lots of interest, 2 short, 1 hour sessions maybe run.

It is essential that you comment on Facebook or email [email protected] to request a place.

Thanks

Lindsay Cadet Rep

Not going ahead

Published by under Cadets

Not going ahead:
After school sailing Thursday or Friday at 16:00
16-17 June 2022
After assessing the forecast we decided not to go ahead.
Thursday there was little interest anyway with a very short window.
Friday unfortunately there is increasing sea breeze with outgoing tide, not safe to coach a group with limited safety resources.
If you see parents and cadets, keep it in mind that there is no coaching, no safety boat cover.
I am sorry, I was keen, but the weather is not with us.

Cadet Race Training and 3 Races

Published by under Cadets

This Sunday 19th June

Briefing at 14.45 (changed and rigged, meet on the sea wall). Leaving the beach at 15.00.

This activity is aimed at the more experienced Cadet Sailors to develop their Racing skills. Sessions include exercises to improve boat handling, sailing a set course, starting and finishes with a series of short races.

CADETS ARE TO COMPLETE THE FULL SESSION, coming back during a session is not an option due to safety reasons. Parents are encouraged to help with preparation, recovery and on-the-water.

Please complete the short form to register your child for this session. Click here

(This allows me to prepare the Race sheet and save so much time on the day)

After school sailing Thursday or Friday at 16:00 – is there interest?

Published by under Cadets

After school sailing Thursday or Friday at 16:00
16-17 June 2022
With Nick we are considering arranging sailing for cadets.
Please, let me know if you are interested.

The weather is good, and there will be enough water for a sailing session each day.
Any sailor in any boat could come who can sail independently (at least tack around and stay in the sailing area). This is not a learn to sail course.

Experienced sailors may wish us to set up a practice race course and may ask for racing drills.

For less experienced sailors we will provide coaching and supervision.
The aim of the session is to enjoy sailing in a sunny weather and have fun.
I will ask sailors to remain in the agreed sailing area to ensure appropriate safety cover.
Parents, we will be grateful for your help with safety.

Please, let me know if you are interested:

Cadet Sailing Activity – Sunday 12th June

Published by under Cadets

This Sunday 12th June we have a Cadet session on the water.
This is open to all Cadets who can sail a triangular course (Beat and Reach), but do not need to be a champion……yet!
This is to cover Andras’s session, as he cannot attend this weekend. My plan is to have some training, a couple of games and two short races that everyone can enjoy. For safety, Cadet are required to complete the full session and not come in early.
09.15 Briefing on Sea wall. (Please be changed and rigged).
09.30 Leave Beach
Parental help is needed please.
You should try to move your boat to the beach before 8.45 because of the Southend Half Marathon. See TBYC E-Mail and post.
Please fill in the short form to attend, this saves so much time on the day. https://forms.gle/HZG295M9sb9dp4GX7

Training session for cadets 28 May Saturday 9:45

Published by under Cadets

This Saturday 28 May 2022 there will be a training session for cadets.
Briefing at the beach 9:45, going afloat at 10:00.
Safety: two RIBs with me and Mark
We need further safety crew parents, getting marks out, and help at the beach for launching and recovery

This session is not suitable for sailors who have never sailed before.
Minimium age is 8

Primary targets are sailors wishing to improve their tacking and basic upwind skills.
Sailing single handed if possible (not much benefit for the crew in these sessions).
Those who have been on the water a few times already, but not competent or not brilliant in sailing a triangular course. No racing experience, or little racing experience with lack of confidence.

As resources are limited, It is essential that you let me know if your sailor is coming.
For safety reasons the group has limitations. Your sailor may be asked not to come out if the numbers are unsafe. If I know in advance, we might organise do two sessions consecutively.
