This year’s RYA Stage 2 Course and Assessment will be held on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st May starting at 10.00 each day, finishing at 18.00 at Thorpe Bay Yacht Club. (Registration is at 9.45 on Saturday). This course is aimed at Cadets in Year 6 or above.
There are 6 places available on this course. You will receive an Email telling you if a place is available to your child. We will try to put on another course, once this one is full.
The course is designed by the RYA to ‘……give you a range of sailing skills and background knowledge to make you a confident sailor’.
The course requires two full days of ‘on-the-water’ training, classroom and field activities and assessment. Every candidate must complete both days and reach a reasonable standard to be awarded ‘RYA Stage Two’, a nationally recognised certification. The course is run by your RYA Qualified Club coaches.
The cost is £25 to cover administration, RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Book (G11), Certification and RYA Registration. Please wait until your application has been accepted before making payment.

We are bringing SS4 onto the slipway tomorrow to do a number of jobs including a bit of anti-fouling. If anyone is free to help from @ 10:30 – 14:00 that would be great!
Training from 14:00 hrs
- How to start and run SS4
- How to use the anchor
- Best practice’s on manoeuvres and picking up the mooring
- Running a race incl: Setting a course, Setting the Pin, Start sequence and flags, Filling in the race sheets, Choosing when to finish, Shutting down the boat after use.
Although we won’t be afloat, I’m sure the hands on run through will help you greatly.
This is offered to any current RO’s who would like a re-cap, any current ARO’s looking to gain more confidence, and anyone else who would like to get involved with Race Management.
It really can be very rewarding.
Please let me know if you’d like to come along.

The Royal Corinthian YC is hosting the Keelboat Endeavour Trophy this weekend 15/16 April.
The Keelboat Endeavour is the opportunity for all Keelboat Classes to compete against each other on a level playing field to fight for the Keelboat Endeavour Champion.
The helm must be a Keelboat class National Champion, with crews from the class to make up a team of four.
TBYC’s entry will be made up of our current Sandhopper National Champions and the Runner Up: Alex Farrall, George Warrington, Richard Barnes and Mark Dell.
The event consists of a series of short course fleet races and is designed for teams of 4 to sail in 707 matched keelboats.
The type of racing is designed to make exciting, high speed sailing and minimise the spread in the fleet, and with a target time of 15 minutes per race, the emphasis is on as many short races in as quick succession as possible.
If you want to take a rib to watch the event, please take note of rule 3.3 below.
3.3. Support Boats shall be clearly marked to identify the Team they are supporting. They shall maintain a listening watch on
the Race Committee VHF Channel; they may not transmit on this channel except in an emergency. Unless requested by
the Race Committee; support boats shall remain a minimum distance of 50 meters from any racing boat, mark, start line
or finish line and shall not make waves in the racing area or otherwise affect racing.
Good Luck Team TBYC!

Please could we have Cadet and Parent volunteers to get the Cadet boats ready for the season. Even if you don’t sail Picos or Optimists, you probably did in the past and we really need your help.
It usually takes 60 minutes!
See you there! Nick

If you have paid for you 2023 storage and plan to keep your dinghies on double or triple stacker road trailers, then you need to inform me as soon as possible which boats these are.
Smaller dinghy storage spaces such as those for Teras, Picos and Lasers don’t really have the width to accommodate larger road trailers.
With this in mind, Mark and I have put together a provisional plan to move the storage of smaller boats on larger road trailers from their usual rows at the North of the Dinghy Park to wider spaces.
This can only happen if numbers are low and provided at the start of the season. Trailers that we are not aware of or introduced later in the season may not be allocated spaces depending upon the capacity of the Dinghy Park at the time.
That you in advance for providing us with your details as soon as you can. I need to publish the plan before next Sunday when the majority of boats will be expected to return following the delayed cruiser lift in on Saturday.
If you plan to return your dinghy before then, plan leave it on the west of the Dinghy Park and then move once the cruisers are launched.
Thank you
Jeremy

I would like to thank everyone that supported me while I was House Rep. I made the tough decision in January to step down due increased work commitments. I would like to wish Scott Weller as the new House Rep all the best with the pivotal role within the club.
I was very pleased to have been able to have brought some small improvements to the club with the support of the overall committee during my time. I would like to mention a few of these achievements in recognition of those that supported me and the club: There were a number of very successful working parties that led to the completion of the front fence, the repainting of the kerbs and the front of the club, cleaning of support boats, the construction of the height restriction for the car park. As well as some other projects that were well supported by our fantastic members, new mast rack, new hoses in the dinghy park, restoration the support boats SS6, SS2 & SS3, two new trailers for SS5 and SS8, re-worked showers, the new balcony awnings, the new pillars & walls at the front of the club & the design and full planning permission of the Rib Store.
The support I received from so many was fantastic, and again I would like to thank you all for all you have done and will do in the future for the club that we all enjoy.
Thanks again,
Scott James.
