UPDATED
Dear all,
After much soul searching and due to the increasing number of Covid cases locally, Jill has reluctantly decided to Postpone the event on Friday 30th July in memory of Gary. This is in the interest of keeping everybody safe.
Jill hopes to be able to hold this event on the same date next year.
Kind regards,
On behalf of Jill Fitzgerald and Family.
Dear Friends,
As you may remember, Gary FitzGerald sadly passed away in February this year and, due to Covid restrictions, unfortunately no wake could be held.
Jill, Toby & Olivia would therefore very much like you to join them to raise a toast to Gary on what would have been his 68th Birthday.
They will be hosting drinks and canapes at Thorpe Hall Golf Club from 1pm on Friday 30th July.
Love,
Toby x

Thank you to all of you that supported and participated in the TBYC Sandhopper Open Evening Event.
I’m pleased to report that it was a great success with many new people getting out and managing to enjoy a Sandhopper for the first time. We hope to run another session later in the season, if this is of interest to you please let me know so I can get an idea of numbers.
Thanks again and happy sailing to you all.

Ladies That Launch enjoyed a fab sail on Sunday in the breeze. It was lovely to see new ladies coming to sail and socialise together, some completely new to sailing. Thank you to you all for making this a very enjoyable morning on the beach and on the water.

Even if you don’t fancy a sail, do come down when we next meet to enjoy a catch up on the beach watching our exploits on the water. We are still waiting for some lovely warm sunny weather to enjoy these sessions in style!
I am speaking to class captains to arrange access to some different boats and hope to enable a blast on the Hurricanes soon; several ladies will also enjoy a ‘Sandhopper taster’ this coming Friday. Of course we are also planning a cruiser outing, which I am sure will be accompanied with a social G&T!
We also chatted about arranging a paddle board outing to Paper Mill Lock maybe next month or in the school holidays, children welcome too. I’ll publish details soon, this will be a lovely relaxed social outing together with a picnic.
Our next social evening is planned for Thursday 15th July in the main club bar, do

come along.
If you wish to be added to the Whatsapp chat please let me know.

I am sorry to say that we need to postpone the Yantlet Trophy to another day. There are safety concerns that need to be taken into consideration on this occasion. With an RYA Rib Instructor Course clashing with this, we do not have the assets available.
Instead we will re-run the McKinlay Cup which was blown out a few weeks ago. This will be replaced on the Calendar and another suitable date for the Yantlet will be posted in due course.
Look forward to seeing a good race on Sunday.

The Sandhopper class would like to invite you to an open event to try a Sandhopper on Friday the 2nd July, starting at 5:30pm.
We are offering the opportunity to go out with an experienced helm and you can helm or crew and we are making at least one sandhopper available for you to take on your own with your own crew, if you would like. We will have a displacement boat available in support of the event and hope to have the Sandhoppers available from the slipway if the wind and weather allow.
We have had a great results in the recent Nore Race with two Sandhoppers finishing the race within 41 seconds of each other after a 3hr 47mins of racing! With Clara at the helm with Peter as Crew of Sea Phantom and Sue at the helm with Will as Crew of Sand Star. Not only a really close race between them, but on handicap they were first and second overall, out of the 70+ boats that entered. What a result!
We always have close racing, but there are plenty of owners that use their boats to just cruise and just get out on the water and enjoy the benefits an open keel boat can have. Apparently we have the largest fleet of class of open keel boats on the Thames!
The weather is currently forecast to be sunny, light winds and little chance of rain, so why not come down to the beach, bring a little dinner with you, have a picnic, get out on a Sandhopper and maybe get reacquainted with old friends or make some new ones in a Covid compliant way!
There are regular opportunities to crew and this will be a great way to see what the boats are all about. We also have a club boat called ‘Primo’ that is available for anyone to use with a little guidance.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to go out a Sandhopper on the 2nd of July 2021in what happens to be our 50th Anniversary year!
Kind regards

P.S. There are also a few boats coming up for sale at the club and it would be fantastic if we could keep them at TBYC.
