Current activities

Root Dig – there was no need for a Root Dig this year.

Moorings – no rationalisation of moorings this season, to give time for full consideration;
If you want to move closer to the beach and slip, there are roots free in the cruiser section (contact Bill)
Remember to check and overhaul your mooring.

Lift-in – the small cruisers in the boat-park will be lifted in by contractors fork-lift on Sunday 24th (the day after the Sandhoppers).  Please keep clear of the boat-park whilst this is in progress.

Polly – Polly’s engine & electrics are being refurbished to tune of £1,000, and we are trying a small platform inside the gunwale to make boat to boat transfers easier and safer.
There will be help needed for anti-fouling etc. Please answer the call!

Website – Initial Cruising resource page added at http://www.tbyc.org/cruising-sailing-dates/resources-mainly-cruising/  (work in progress, send in any links etc.)

Lives saved in TBYC Bar?

At the recent Lifejacket Clinic, RNLI experts found loose and corroded cylinders, out-of-date activators, missing crotch straps, and abraded holes in jackets from all sections of the Club.

Nationally, the RNLI find faults in over 1/3 of lifejackets checked, and recommend annual servicing and monthly quick checks.  Check yours over now – the life you save may be your own!

Following the Thorpe Bay drowning in December, the RNLI now recommend automatic activation for inflatable lifejackets, as well as crotch straps, and –  for cruisers – spray hoods and lights.

The Cruising Section thank the Southend RNLI Sea Safety Team for running the clinic.

Sandhopper and Cruiser Lift Out

On Saturday afternoon the Sandhoppers are being lifted out of the water and into the dinghy park. On Sunday some Cruisers are being lifted out of the water and into the dinghy park.

Members are asked to avoid the dinghy park on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Whilst boats are being moved the dinghy park will be closed to all but essential personnel.

Thank you in anticipation of your cooperation in this matter.

Lost Lifejacket

Published by under Cruising

I left my lifejacket on Polly on Sunday 19th August, it was left in the Bosun’s hut for me to

collect, it was not there when I went to get it, I have also checked in the clubhouse with no luck.

It is a virtually brand new Seago automatic lifejacket, if anybody knows of it’s whereabouts I would be most grateful to hear from you.

Many thanks – David Stacey 07970 891053

Cruiser Rescue

Well done to Peter Thompson & Rupert Snow from the sandhopper fleet for spotting one of our cruisers in trouble drifting in very windy conditions with 5 people aboard, They swam out to seasafe 3 and effected a rescue and tow back to the mooring.

TBYC are very lucky to have such diligent and competent people who are willing to take it upon themselves to help others.

Thank you also to the RNLI who  attended and assisted with securing the vessel and bringing the crew ashore .

Mulberry fun day saturday 14th July

we will be holding our annual fun day out by the mulberry harbour on saturday 14th July.

Everyone is welcome the more boats, toys and people the better, the committee boat will be out to ensure we have a toilet and cooking facilities, bring your packed lunch and drinks these can be stored on the committee boat, all 4 seasafes will be going, why not try a different boat to sail, water ski, donut or rounders?

For those of us taking boats we will be leaving TBYC from 10.30 if you are not taking a boat you can catch a ride on any seasafe or walk out later.

always a good day. Ive booked the sun and 28 degrees

Rescue boats for Cadet week.

Dear all,

We are progressing well with Cadet week plans. This year we are launching a new group but want to ensure we have sufficient RIB and Support boat cover.

Currently we require an additional 2 RIBS.

Should you know of anyone who would be willing to lend a suitable craft to the club for the week of the 20th August – on the understanding that it would only be helmed by experienced and qualified personnel – please can you forward their details.

Thank you,

Mike
