Here’s a glimpse at what it’s like to take part in the Cadet Class National Championship at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) which took place last week.
Ben Warrington GBR 8541 & Katy Lloyd GBR 9029 were part of the 50+ fleet last week. If you think your children would enjoy participating at this level with entrants from Belgium & the Netherlands contact Howard Warrington or myself and we would be delighted to tell you more about life in the Cadet Class – for children & adults.

NOTICE ON BEHALF OF RACE COMMITTEE FOR SANDHOPPER NATIONALS 2016 CREW SUBSTITUTIONS
Regarding crew substitutions, the Race Committee is aware that in some cases crew may not be available on all three days due to work commitments. At the same time we are conscious of the risk of suspicion that crew is varied to suit weather conditions.
For these reasons we are giving notice that there will be a cut-off date for substitution requests due to non-availability of crew. Such requests must be received no later than noon on Friday 12th This date is chosen to give helms time to confirm their crewing arrangements, whilst being far enough ahead that the weather cannot be reliably predicted.
Of course the default arrangement should be that the same crew is used throughout the meeting, but if you know you will have to substitute due to non-availability a request should be submitted to the Race Officer, [email protected] no later than noon on Friday 12th August. Please state the reason the substitution is needed and the names of crew.
Substitutions requested after this cut-off will be dealt with in the normal way, taking due account of the reasons.
If you have any questions regarding the event please contact Mark Robinson on 07957 801 099 or [email protected]

Don’t forget, to compete in the National Championship the helm must be at least an associate member of the SCBA. If you have not joined this year, please contact Janet Willsmer 07969 598309.
Hosted by BrixhamYC sailing in Torbay, with a 10 race championship over 4 days, saw a dry and sunny light wind and less event, in which Nic and his helm Rob Larke posted no less than 4 bullets, supported by 2 seconds. They took the title in an extremely competitive fleet where the top 10 boats included 6 previous Hornet national champions. Gary & Tracey also put in a valiant effort with some close racing running all through the fleet, but finished ‘also rans’, enjoying the company much more than the mainly non trapezing conditions. What a timely advert for the Hornet open meeting to be held at TBYC on 26/27 September 2015, for which a Hornet Association owned boat is currently available to be used, by prior arrangement, by any wanna have a go Horneteers. Congratulations Nic, and yet another TBYC National Champion to add to the TBYC honours board!
The Hurricane Nationals are coming to Thorpe Bay, this year from the 15th-18th August. The Notice of Race and Entry Form are now available from the following link.
The use of Ribs to supplement our displacement Safety craft SS2 and 3 has become a common sight at TBYC. Our Ribs provide excellent speed of response in an emergency situation, allowing the easy laying of the Start buoy and use of Special marks as well as taking the Race officer and displacement crews to their boats. In order for us to enjoy use the Ribs they need Launching prior to the race and recovering after every one is ashore.
The task of launching and recovering the Ribs has now been added to Dutyman for the rest of July and August to keep track of who volunteer to do this essential job. At the end of this time the Sailing Committee will review the situation going forward.
Treating launching and recovery as two separate duties we have 44 duties to cover over the next two months. Rob Baily has kindly volunteered to cover this Saturday Launch and Recovery, with Toby Speller taking 18 of the duties straight away. The remaining launch and recovery duties need covering if we are to see Ribs supporting our Weekend Racing. If you can help, please volunteer through Dutyman, or email Janet, Graham and I to get your offer of cover added on to Dutyman.
Thank you all for your help and support in enabling the use of Ribs to continue at TBYC. Without your help it won’t happen.
