Congratulations to ‘Stage 3’ Sailors

Ten Sailors, cadets and adults successfully completed their Stage 3 Sailing course last weekend during a Sunset sail. The course, which included seamanship and racing skills plus meteorology and navigation knowledge was completed over four sessions on and off the water.

Congratulation to: Jonathan W, Toby W, Theo W, Lesley D, Aimee D, Joe H-F, Charlotte R, Nathan S, Ben E, Peter S.

Bank Holiday Monday

Hi All as there is no sailing on Monday we are going to do an impromptu mulberry day. We will take the committee boat and ribs along with my rib and toys out early morning to the mulberry and set up on the bank to have fun!!!

 

Then come back in with the late afternoon early evening tide

2019 TBYC Endeavour

TBYC Endeavour Trophy – 2019

 

Commodore, Steve Hopper suggested that we invite all last year’s class winners to sail in the Sandhopper against our National Champions. Little did he think I’d take him at his word! We did it. And what an event it was.

Poaching the name from the Royal Corinthian’s famous and highly prized Endeavour Trophy, we set about our own. Although after some discussion it was decided that this should be a perpetual trophy, sailed each year but for any class to offer the challenge and defend their honour against the top crews in the club. Next year we could be in Picos, Hurricanes, Lasers; whoever offers up the challenge first.

This inaugural year was ours. The Sandhopper. Eight very special owners offered up their boats to be used in the regatta which was a resounding success. Lots were drawn for who sailed which boat at the cadet week prize giving, with an invite going to the winners of the cadet week to take part. Of course, we had to handicap our National Champions and they gracefully accepted to sail Primo – our class boat kindly sponsored by Primo Insurance. She’s very overweight with old sails, ropes and spars and most of the anti-fouling missing of her hull.

TBYC Endeavour Trophy – Saturday 3rd August

Endeavour Sailing Instructions

The Sandhopper Class have arranged for a Champion of Champions style event. modelled on the famous RCYC Endeavour Trophy. We have invited the top runners from last years sailing season to compete against the current Sandhopper National Champions: Peter Thompson and Mark Dell.

Our owners have very kindly donated their boats to be used in the event. Our hope is that this will become a perpetual trophy and the challenge can be laid down by any class.

Commodore Steve Hopper has very kindly donated a wonderful trophy which will in pride of place in the main bar – photo inserted.

This year’s invitees are:
Hurricane: Julian Reichart and Jeremy Sandford – CONFIRMED
Sprint:  Alan Grant and Steve Healy – CONFIRMED
Laser: Adam Smith and Rick Paxman – CONFIRMED
Finn: Mark Petty-Mayor and Sander Kooij – CONFIRMED
Albacore: Graham and Nick Ollett – CONFIRMED
Single Handers: Duncan de Boltz and Ronnie Barnes – CONFIRMED
Contender: Chris Boshier  – CONFIRMED subject to crew
Hornet: Gary and Tracey Haylett
Nacra: Nick Elmore and Andy Wood

We would also like to offer a boat to our Cadets and we’ll decide how to do that in Cadet Week.

The Sailing Instructions are attached. It will be a 1 day event with 4 races, all to count with the winner being declared the TBYC Endeavour Champion 2019.

We really hope that all invitees will accept the challenge and join in the spirit of our wonderful sport of sailing.
