THANKS TO THE VOLUNTEERS ON 30 JUNE / 1 JULY

Thanks to all the volunteers who stepped up last weekend to allow sailing to go ahead.

These were: John Casson, Tony Padbury, Gary Burrows, Barry Duce and Alex? (hopefully the right Warrington!) – and of course thanks as ever to those with duties who were there.

We have a significant number of people dropping out of duties this year often at the last minute and with no good reason which just makes it harder for the rest of us.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE – if you have a duty and can’t do it for any reason do the following as early as possible:

  • Mark as SWAP REQUIRED on Dutyman and actively look for others to swap with.
  • Approach others who are not looking to swap – often they will swap with you if you ask.
  • Or find a future Vacancy on Dutyman and swap with that

If all else fails please let the Duty Officer know asap and at least a week before so we can advertise for a replacement

If you need help with Dutyman (it’s easy when you try, honest ) just contact me at [email protected] I will assist.

When people have made a real effort and have a reason they cannot do their duty we can often help but that is difficult if things are left until the last minute.

TBYC Hurricanes at Clacton

Published by under Catamarans,Racing

The Thorpe Bay flag was flying high in Clacton on Sea this weekend.

The dynamic duo of Julian Reichert and Jeremy Sandford took the win of the Clacton TT by just 1 point from Canvey regular Lloyd Turner.

Taking a well deserved 3rd place was Hurricane veteran Nick Elmore sailing with youngest son Charlie and putting up a great fight with a photo finish in race 3, so close that the race committee couldn’t decide who was in front!

Well done team TBYC.

CADET’S ‘Rebellious Bowl Regatta’ and ‘Inshore’ Regatta’

Published by under Cadets,Racing

The two Regattas are both 3-day events; this Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  They will cover all abilities and can be sailed in any boat including Optimist’s, Pico’s, Lasers, Toppers and RS Tera’s and RS Feva’s. We would like to see as many as possible sail these special events. We have two options:

Those who can sail a Beat, Reach and Run are encouraged to enter the ‘Rebellious Bowl’ Regatta, starting from the Committee boat. There will be two Races each day with a separate Cadet start. Each race will be 40 minutes using large inflatable buoys. Nick Alston will be organising and supporting the Cadet sailors.

For those Cadets who prefer, there will be an ‘Inshore’ Regatta with a trapezoid course with support for the younger, less experienced and less confident sailors. There will be five short, one lap races each day, which should give everyone an action-packed experience and a chance to develop their sailing skills in a fun and safe environment. The only requirement is a willingness to sail; either single handed or with a crew. This sailing activity is organised by Andras Gal. Parental help would be appreciated.

It is hoped that the Cadets will be able to sail all three days and all the races, however less is fine.  There will be a Briefing/training session on Friday evening for ‘Rebellious Bowl’ Cadets and a separate session on Sailing skills for ‘Inshore’ Cadets.  See below:

Rebellions Bowl Regatta Programme

Friday 19.30 Briefing to cover sailing rules, starting procedure and course.

Saturday 9.39 start (on the water by 9.09).    Two races.

Sunday 10.09 start (on the water by 9.39).     Two races.

Monday 10.39 start (on the water by 10.09). Two races. Prize giving in the Club House ASAP after races.

Inshore Regatta

Friday 19.00 Briefing to cover sailing skills and rules, starts and course.

Saturday 9.30 start Five mini races.

Sunday 10.00 start Five mini races.

Monday 10.30 start Five mini races. Prize giving in the Club House ASAP after races.

It would be helpful to E-Mail either Nick Alston [email protected] or Andras Gal [email protected] your intentions to sail including the days. This is not essential but would be helpful.  We welcome as much racing as possible.
