DINGHY PARK 2021

Evening Sailors,

From tomorrow, All Dinghies and Catamarans that have paid for this seasons storage can bring their boats into the Dinghy Park. With no main access to the Clubhouse, viewing the printed plan cannot be public so it is located inside the building within the area of the back door, same access for toilets.

You can also review online using the link that has been in the the recent email and posted within the TBYC Facebook Group.

The Dinghy Park plan is always an active document with boats being bought and sold. In an effort to keep the document up to date, if you arrange to swap with someone and your boat is in a different space, please let me know by emailing [email protected] or commenting on the google doc.

HRH Duke of Edinburgh

Dear All

As you know the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh will take place during racing on Saturday afternoon. Whilst some sporting events have been cancelled we believe that Prince Phillip – a keen sailor himself, would not have wanted us to stop. You can almost hear him say “just bloody get on with it”…

We have therefore decided that racing will go ahead and the Race Management Team will endeavour to have the first race finished before 15:00. This may mean it might be a bit short.

At 15:00 there will be a long blast from the Committee Boat’s starting hooter, signalling the start of the Nation’s One Minute Silence. The Ensign will be lowered for the duration. The same will happen on shore for those enjoying the Club’s “Car Park Bar”.

2021 TBYC duty calendar – now’s the time to choose your duties!

With the start of the 2021 season only a few weeks away and the sailing programme now published I’ll be putting names against duties and publishing on DutyMan by 19th March.

For those already registered on Dutyman who wish to pick their own duties / dates, you should have received an email from [email protected] on 6th March with a link and instructions on how to do this. Choices close on 16th March to allow me time to publish the calendar on 19th.

If you prefer not to do it online then simply email me at [email protected] with dates you can’t do and I’ll allocate duties for you.

If you have not received your email (check your spam folder?) please contact me at [email protected]

Although duties are covered mainly by club members who race, many non racers / sailors also choose to do duties. If you have not done duties before and would like to get involved (no experience necessary) please contact me at [email protected]

Frozen Sheets Race + Racing Update

Dear Members

The Government is due to review our Tier status on the 30th. Should we be moved to a lower Tier, which seems unlikely, the Sailing Committee feel that with the dangerous levels of infections currently being seen across the area, it would be fool hardy of us to endorse racing even if we are able.

We are all very keen to continue with racing as for most of us, it is our beloved sport and something we all long for. To disrupt this is hard for all of us at TBYC but a necessary sacrifice to ensure the protection of our community, members and staff.

Rest assured that will be looking at the guidance continuously and if a window of opportunity should appear we will react if it is right to do so.

I am sure that the whole club will pull together and look forward to better times to come. With more vaccine available and the spring weather to both help reduce infections and allow us to return safely to racing.

In the meantime, continue to stay safe and well. Remember, the dinghy park is still open for winter preparations to Cruisers and Sandhoppers and of course free sailing is available ensuring the Tier 4 and club guidance is followed.

Tier 4 update

Dear Members,

Following the Governments announcement that we are now in Tier 4 the club has reviewed its guidance to members.

Members can still access the dinghy park and free sail as there is no limit on outdoor exercise.

Please also consider you should be staying at home and only travelling for specific reasons like work and education.

If attending the dinghy park on your own you may only mix with one other person who is not part of your household or support bubble.

RYA guidelines currently do not include Tier 4 advice. This will be reviewed by the club when published.

Regards

Adrian Bunting

Commodore TBYC
