TBYC Volvo Ocean Race Game

Hi All, for all you armchair sailors, and following popular demand I am sponsoring a trophy for the best placed TBYC virtual boat in the game. For those of you who have not entered or who do not know about it, then here are a few facts. The virtual race mirrors the actual Volvo ocean race covering 8 legs over 9 months. The game has in excess of 120000 virtual boats. leg 1 is complete but we will run each leg as a race in a series and load the entrants on Hal’s racing programme as a series. The series will have 2 discards for the 8 legs to enable newcomers to join in and possibly win!!!. After the first leg the top five TBYC boats were 1st Daren Fitchew, 2nd Jeremy Sandford, 3rd Steve Healey, 4th Steve Hopper and 5th David Hopper.

The next leg starts on Sunday 11th Dec 2011 so get registered and join in the banter and fun!!!

You can register at http://www.volvooceanracegame.org/play

Then please leave a comment on this article so we can enter you and your boat in the regatta.

Happy armchair sailing Steve Hopper

MISSING RIB KILL CORD LAST SUNDAY 13th

Published by under Club Notices,Racing

Last Sunday 13th, we were unable to provide one rib support cover due to a missing safety kill cord. The rib key, as normal, was in the box within the race officers hut, but no safety cord attached.

Could I ask that anyone entering the race hut either it be as race officer or safety crew etc, please cast an eye to ensure all keys and cords are there in future. If keys/cords are missing/damaged, please inform a sailing committee member ASAP so that it can be replaced in time for the next race.

Remember that these support boats are essential for your safety.

Thanks

Simon

Ovington Inlands – Grafham Water

Published by under Racing

3 Thorpe Bay boats braved the “killer shrimp” at the Ovington Inlands last weekend at Graham Water.

Dan Henderson and George Hand finished a superb 4th place taking on some of Britain’s Olympic contenders scoring a 1st and two 2nds in the 49er fleet. Miles and Mason Burrage came a very credible 7th out of the 15 strong fleet, really looking good out there in the 16-20 knot breeze.

Newcomers to the 29er fleet this year, Alex Farrall and George Warrington placed 24th overall in the biggest fleet of 62 boats. Their 1st event after a few weekend training sessions with the RYA pre TT squad and they were very happy with their efforts.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 Game

Published by under Members,Racing

The challenge is on for the insomniacs amongst us because the addictive online Round the World, Volvo Ocean race game starts on 5th November at 14:00 CET.

The race  lasts for nearly 9 months and mimicks the real event.

In 2009 there were several boats entered from TBYC and the rivalry set in.

You can run a boat as a share and split the load if you wish.

Please feel free to leave your TBYC boatname once you have signed up as a comment on this item then you will be able to track their progress.

Final Fling & Winter Sunday Race 1

Published by under Racing

A big thank you to those members including the Commodore that stepped in yesterday at short notice to cover duty no shows.

Please remember it is your own responsibility to arrange duty swaps, please don’t expect the Club Office to deal with last minute requests…….
