SANDHOPPER OPEN

Published by under Sandhoppers

Congratulations to Peter Thompson and Steve Hopper in Sand star who swept the board at the open with 3 firsts, second place was taken by Paul and Bruce Spratt in Apollo and in third was Phil Crawford and Margaret Kennedy in Satisafaction,

19 boats took part in near perfect conditions with close battles being fought throughout the fleet, many thanks to Gordon Sanders and his team who set perfect courses and did a stirling job.

Thanks to Primo Insurance for Sponsoring the regatta and pulling a sandhopper grandfather (Ken) in the draw giving him a new ipod touch.

YANTLET RACE

Published by under Racing,Sandhoppers

_mg_0149Congratulations to Martin and Nick Binnendijk for winning the Yantlet race yesterday out of 50 entrants.

15 Sandhoppers were in the top 20 places and with 17 sandhoppers starting they were the largest class on the water, top marks to Peter and John in Talitrus along with John and Janet in sandpiper who showed the rest of the fleet their skills with tide flow across the thames.

As for chris and toby in Nemises (DBL) along with Apollo and Sand star… boys need to take note of tide times and race course instructions!!!

A fantastic race was had by all in glorious conditions.

Sandhopper final Fling

Published by under Sandhoppers

The final fling was held in testing conditions with 17 boats battling a 30 mph southerly wind for the top spot,

race officer Andrew hannah was having no nonscense with the starts and insisted on 3 of them, major culprits over on the first 2 were Alan Burrell with Paul spratt on Apollo ensuring they pushed a few over with them.

With the race underway Apollo lead with Sandstar and Satisfaction close on their heels, the entire fleet had some amazing surfing on the downwind leg with positions swapping constantly, 3 laps tested many crews with a few exhausted at the end.

Apollo took line honours with sandstar in 2nd and satisfaction 3rd, maiden voyage blue jacket with the Barnes duo put in a good performance and were awarded the ‘Golden Anchor’ for showing the rest of the fleet how to launch your kite clew first, well done Nic!! Also on their maiden voyage were messers Gibson and Wolfe who pressganged local national champion dan Henderson and put in a fantastic first race even if they did pull half their fittings out of the boat.

many of us sailed 3 up and thoroughly enjoyed the event, Steve Hopper and Peter Thompson won the cash sweepstake, whilst messers Burrell and Spratt took the sunday trophy and the much sort after final fling trophy kindly donated by Hannah and Tony Padbury.

many thanks to Andrew hannah the race officer, Tony Clarke and Peter Evens for safety support and to rupert snow for finishing behind me again for the 26th time this year.

lets hope winter passes quickly so we can continue the fun.

Sandhopper sunday trophy

Published by under Sandhoppers

Congratulations to Annemeike and Martin who on squiffy won the sunday Sandhopper trophy, twelve sandhoppers took part in the light conditions and the close racing once again was great fun. Rupert and Linda in Zeus are improving each week and im sure my old crew will start to give me a run for my money next year, we missed Paul and Toby this weekend on Nemesis who in their last two races have lead from start to finish, hope to see you next week boys.

lets hope the remainder of the season is sailed in such glorious sunshine, only a few weeks left before lift out so lets keep the numbers up and remain the biggest single fleet racing at tbyc.
