TBYC Sandhopper Open Evening 2 July 2021
Thank you to all of you that supported and participated in the TBYC Sandhopper Open Evening Event.
I’m pleased to report that it was a great success with many new people getting out and managing to enjoy a Sandhopper for the first time. We hope to run another session later in the season, if this is of interest to you please let me know so I can get an idea of numbers.
Thanks again and happy sailing to you all.

Sandhopper Open Evening – Friday 2 July – 5:30pm
The Sandhopper class would like to invite you to an open event to try a Sandhopper on Friday the 2nd July, starting at 5:30pm.
We are offering the opportunity to go out with an experienced helm and you can helm or crew and we are making at least one sandhopper available for you to take on your own with your own crew, if you would like. We will have a displacement boat available in support of the event and hope to have the Sandhoppers available from the slipway if the wind and weather allow.
We have had a great results in the recent Nore Race with two Sandhoppers finishing the race within 41 seconds of each other after a 3hr 47mins of racing! With Clara at the helm with Peter as Crew of Sea Phantom and Sue at the helm with Will as Crew of Sand Star. Not only a really close race between them, but on handicap they were first and second overall, out of the 70+ boats that entered. What a result!
We always have close racing, but there are plenty of owners that use their boats to just cruise and just get out on the water and enjoy the benefits an open keel boat can have. Apparently we have the largest fleet of class of open keel boats on the Thames!
The weather is currently forecast to be sunny, light winds and little chance of rain, so why not come down to the beach, bring a little dinner with you, have a picnic, get out on a Sandhopper and maybe get reacquainted with old friends or make some new ones in a Covid compliant way!
There are regular opportunities to crew and this will be a great way to see what the boats are all about. We also have a club boat called ‘Primo’ that is available for anyone to use with a little guidance.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to go out a Sandhopper on the 2nd of July 2021in what happens to be our 50th Anniversary year!
Kind regards
Scott James

P.S. There are also a few boats coming up for sale at the club and it would be fantastic if we could keep them at TBYC.

Winter Dinghy Park
Hi All, It’s that time of year when the sailing season is over and the winter series will begin (after the Cruiser and Sandhopper liftout 21/22nd October). As per the Club program, all dinghies should have vacated the dinghy park in order for these manoeuvres take place. Specifically rows E,F,G.
If you own a pico or laser and wish to pay for storage for the winter please contact your class captain to discuss rack storage and how you will put your boat on the racks. It is YOUR OWN responsibility to ensure your boats are moved.

Sandhopper Nationals 2019 Part Deux
We will be running the Sandhopper Nationals on the 19th/20th October and this will also incorporate the Final Fling Trophy. Unfortunately we lost the scheduled event due to high winds so we are looking forward to the re-run and hopeful of fair weather conditions!
If anyone is interested in joining us and taking part (there’s no club racing that weekend) please let me know. I am sure there may be boats available to sail. It will be a great event and as there’s no club racing, we’ll be able to hold it directly off the clubhouse so spectators will have a better view.
We are looking for volunteers to run the ribs. If you are free please let me know, my number is in the sailing programme.
