David White and Jon Sweet are off to the F18 Worlds on Friday, this year the worlds are been held in Erquy France, which is just along the coast from St Malo.
We have qualified as the 2nd fastest F18 in the UK and will be racing against over 165 other F18’s including all the worlds best catamaran sailors. Racing starts on Monday going on till Friday, we are hoping to gain a top 30 finish and been one of the top three GBR teams.
Results will be posted after every race on the Worlds website http://www.cvberquy.org/f18worlds2010/ every boat at the worlds will be equipped with a GPS tracking device which will allow any of the boats to be tracked online live during each race. If anyone is feeling bored at work its well worth a look I’m sure my dad will be watching intently shouting and the screen when we don’t tack on a shift!
Ill let everyone know how we get on and I hope to be down the club soon.

Cadet 8407 Fantasy Jess Quinlan and Alex Warrington
Well Alex and Jess are now back from Buenos Aires having had the trip and experiance of a lifetime. I hope you all were able to follow the event on the Argentinian Website as posted. There were lots of photos and articles posted daily.
As some of you know from experience the sailing conditions in B.A. are extremely hard. They had all wind ranges up to force 5, which is rare for that time of year. The water is very shallow and because of this it is extremely choppy. Couple that with a stronger tide than at TBYC and you’ll find its very tricky to get a cadet moving forwards!!
They had a rocky start but put in some decent results in the mid week. A black flag (pushing too hard!) made them carry a 35th which put the stoppers on a top 20 finish. Sadly a bad last day put them 26th overall.
All said and done, they qualified for the British Team in a tough race series throughout last year. The experience and what they learnt sailing in Argentina will stay with them for life and hopefully stand them in good stead for the future.
All this could not have been possible without the fantastic support and help from this club and friends and family. We were overawed by the level of support. To be part of a club such as this is a truly great thing and we are very grateful to everyone for their kind donations.
Thank You!!

On Behalf of John Boshier :-
AFTER THE LAST RACE (THE 10TH) CHRIS FINISHED 20TH OUT OF 60. THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION WAS TOUGH AND THAT WAS A VERY GOOD RESULT.
IN A FEW RACES HE DID MUCH BETTER THAN THE 20TH POSITION ON COMPLETION BUT GENERALLY HE WAS FAIRLY CONSISTENT AT THIS LEVEL. A VERY SATISFYING OUTCOME.
THE UK CONTINGENT STUFFED THEIR 11 BOATS BACK INTO THE SHIPPING CONTAINER YESTERDAY AND HIS FLIGHT OUT IS ON THURSDAY – ARRIVING BACK IN THE UK EARLY FRIDAY.
SOMEHOW THE “ECHO” GOT WIND OF IT AND GAVE CHRIS A GOOD REPORT IN THE WEDNESDAY ISSUE – EXCEPT THAT THEY CALLED HIM THE SECRETARY INSTEAD OF SAILING SECRETARY .

Chris’ Dad , John Boshier, has asked me to put this on the web page for him.
Thursday was the first day of the Contender Words events.
Prior to that was the Australian National Championships in which Chris participated in some of the races for experience – but the Worlds is what he is there for.
In the first race of the day Chris came 29 out of 60 boats entered. Not bad. Chris said he was doing better than that at the start. But then had a bit of boat trouble that he could not rectify until the first race was over .
The second race went very well – he finished 11th out of 60 – pretty good !!!
Overall, based on these two races he is 15th out of 60.
Good Luck Chris.
Regards Dad. (John Boshier)
Worlds Championships finishes on the 11th Jan and he should arrive back in the UK on 15th.

For those that don’t know our Sailing Secretary Chris Boshier is out in Brisbane Australia for the 40th Contender Worlds. I heared from Chris on New years Day and he was pulling his hair out!; as of then team GBR still had not receiveid their boats!! They were 3000 miles from there intended destination held in a Malaysian Container park and being held up by Malaysian Customs. Although not yet confirmed by Chris Y&A have stated the boats are now there!!!
Chris is entered in the Australian (3-6 Jan) and World Championships (7-12 Jan) and so has had no practice since ariving there on 27th December. He would have had his first Race today 3-01-2010 (-10 hours approx).
I wish him, and team GBR the best of luck with the rest of the event and for those that want to follow his progress the official Contender Worlds web site is here.
