The chap drinking the champagne near the end is Alan “Sally” Setford. I knew him when I was a cadet down at Leigh. I know he won the national championship at one time; maybe 1964 was the year?
What a trip down memory lane.As GP14 Class capt I caught a glimpse of myself as Beachmaster hauling 285lbs plus GPs up the slipway. No wonder I suffer back trouble in old age. The chap with the bubbly and dark glasses was the 1964 National Champion Alan “Sally” Setford of Leigh-on-sea SC after his last race triumph enjoying champagne with his wife Mary .The GPs visited Thorpe Bay every 4 years from 1961 until 1982 they also sailed the first world championships held in Britain at Thorpe Bay in 1971.Finally, GPs had the best beer sales at the club over the Hornets quite a record.
I spotted Anne McKinley in a bikini.
i recognise the bloke in the gents showers with the bobble hat!
