At the RNLI Supporters dinner last night, I am very pleased and honoured to receive, on behalf of Thorpe Bay Yacht Club, a letter of thanks signed by the Cheif Executive of the RNLI for the years of support our club has given to the Institute. Thanks were given to us for not only the financial donations but also for welcoming members of the crews and committees to use our club facilities.
We also received a plaque, of thanks, from the Institute.
The award can be seen on the wall by the main bar.

Lucille Palmer is braving the elements at the end of February in Northern Sweden inside the arctic circle to raise money for Walk the Walk in aid of Breast Cancer. This will involve two days trekking using cross country skis covering 13 miles a day – no mean feat without huskies or a steep slope.
You may have seen her walking at a fair old lick (but under the 5mph they recommend for training!!!) along the seafront in thermals and sporting a rucksack as part of her acclimatisation process.
You can follow her progress or preferably donate some money to support her in this gargantuan effort on the Walk the Walk website.

We are pleased to announce the return of our entertaining Cocktail Making Evening on Saturday 16th February 2013 – this time with a Valentine’s twist!
Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to learn the art of cocktail making with a UK Bar Flairing Champion – a really fun night with demonstrations and tastings of range of fabulous cocktails.
Tickets for this event are £20 each and include a delicious antipasti buffet.
Numbers are strictly limited, and this was a sell out event last year, so please be sure to buy your tickets from the club bar as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Many people last year asked if we could produce a file that could be imported to your various combinations of electronic diaries (Outlook, Gmail, Smartphones) to include details of the Club Programme. DutyMan have recently done an upgrade which means this is now possible and Graham Dare has included the start times on the race name to make this more useful.
The following link is the file in a format that is recognised by most packages (.ICS). To put into Outlook you can use the Import Option once the file is saved, and within Gmail Google Calendar you can just add the URL directly as anothers calendar. http://www.dutyman.biz/eventfeed/?id=T0001839&m=h11rCbtm . This options is also available for Smartphones, although sometimes it is just best to share an existing calendar. If you use a Google calendar then just add [email protected] as another calendar.
If you are more adventurous all this information is available in the Smartphone tab once logged into DutyMan, including links specifically for your duties. Remember however the file format isn’t just restricted to Smartphones.

Don’t write all the racing dates from the sailing programme, which is due out soon, onto a Calendar. This is just to confirm that a TBYC Racing Calendar 2013-2014 is in production and will be available soon, although as a reminder it is preorder only. More details to follow, however it is expected to be a similar price to last year. Again the Calendar contains all the racing and many other dates pre printed, with loads of great photos from last year by Linzi.
The Calendar doesn’t start until April so will follow on from last years.
If you brought a last years there is a couple of changes that now need to be made, the Sandhopper and Cruiser Lift in have now been arranged for the 23rd and 24th March.

Now Sold Enforced sale, due to my arthritic deterioration.
Many of you know how I stand – not very well in fact! The arthritis in my feet and ankles has deteriorated to a point where it has, at last, got the better of me. There is not much that can be done for this problem. You cannot have a new foot the way you can have a new hip, so sadly I cannot sail anymore. It is impossible for me to maintain my boat as I can longer climb into her in the dinghy park, or get underneath to paint or walk out to her on the mud. Sorry to burden you with my ills, but that is why I have to sell “Sandpiper” quickly.
So, if someone would take by boat quickly for just £1,000, I would be pleased to let her go, but only for an immediate sale, and for her to be sailed at Thorpe Bay, and she has to be taken “as is.
“Sandpiper” is not in immaculate condition. It has been difficult to get done all that I should do. However she is fit to race for a while as she is. There is no osmosis and sails, rigging and fittings are OK. Last season she served us ideally without any trouble. At the beginning of the season we were still participating in fairly wild conditions with no problem, without anything needing immediate attention.
If you wish to have a look at “Sandpiper”, she is first on the right down the steps into the dinghy park.
