Hunter Cup – Dennis Hunter Memorial

Published by under Club Notices

The race this Sunday at 16.30 is the Hunter Cup Mr Phil Hunter would like to have this occasion to remember his father Dennis and for us to sail in his memory. Mr Hunter will accompany the race officers on the Committee Boat as a guest of the club for the race.

After the race Mr Hunter will present the winner with the Hunter Cup and a Firkin of Ale – as this was one one of our traditions. The winner is then urged to share the ale with his fellow sailors of the day. This should then become an annual event with this special prize giving ceremony all in memory of Dennis Hunter.

I would like to see as many members as possible sail on the day and stay after for the Prize giving – there will be prizes to third place overall.

Dennis Hunter

Published by under Club Notices

It is with great sadness I have to inform you that Dennis Hunter passed away on 29th August.

His funeral service is on Wednesday 19th September at the larger west chapel, Southend Crematorium, Sutton Road starting at 12noon. There is also a celebration of his life, that will be held immediately after the funeral service at St Clements Court West ( ground floor lobby ), Broadway West, Leigh on Sea SS9 2BW. We would welcome all Thorpe Bay Yacht Club current & past senior members that new him. Can you mention his funeral service to as many of the senior members as possible – thanks.

For those of you who did not know Dennis – he was one of our founder members and played a part in the shaping of Thorpe Bay Yacht Club. I met with him and his son Phil a few months ago to discuss his part in the club in its early days. It is a real shame that he could not see the Hunter Cup race this Sunday as he had planned. He will be sorely missed.

Lost Lifejacket

Published by under Cruising

I left my lifejacket on Polly on Sunday 19th August, it was left in the Bosun’s hut for me to

collect, it was not there when I went to get it, I have also checked in the clubhouse with no luck.

It is a virtually brand new Seago automatic lifejacket, if anybody knows of it’s whereabouts I would be most grateful to hear from you.

Many thanks – David Stacey 07970 891053

Well Appreciated – Richard Sands

Published by under Monohulls

At some stage over the last couple of weeks the Club Laser Beach Trolley has fallen apart due to corrosion. So a very special Thanks to Richard Sands for offering his own Beach Trolley to serve the Club Laser.
