Thank you from Andrew Hannah & the Sprints

Published by under Bilge

As Sprint captain, I would like to express my thanks to all who helped rescue Ian and Anita Douce last saturday. I didn’t learn the full story until I saw the Douces at church on sunday morning. I knew they had been rescued, but didn’t know how.

Special thanks to Chris and Paul Clarke, who jumped into the water to help them. They then sailed the Sprint back to shore. A further note of thanks to Steve Hopper who gave assistance.

The wind was light when they set out. But it steadily strengthened to F4-5. Too much for beginners. Beach cats are fairly stable. But Ian fell overboard, rather than capsize. The Clarkes forsook their own racing to assist others who were in trouble. A noble act indeed. Thanks to all.

Andrew.

Boatacs – Eastern Esplanade, Southend

Published by under Bilge

Unfortunately Boatacs are closing their seafront shop this week, so we will need to shop at either TCS or Boatacs in London Road, Westcliff for those last minute emergencies and regular chandlery.

RS FEVA next step from Laser Pico

Published by under Cadets,Monohulls,Racing

Following the success of the Laser Pico as the TBYC Cadet/family boat of choice and numbers soon to exceed 70 in the boat park we are very aware of how much easier it is to train and develop sailing skills when all in the same boats.
As the kids grow in size and ability we would like to guide the next step up to be the RS FEVA, there are already a few in the club and in the race group of Cadet Week. Built in a similar material to the PICO they have good durability and the rig has the asymetric kite for excellent performance.

www.rsfeva.org/

once we have got a good nucleus of Feva’s back in the club then it is proposed to offer training days to develop the boat handling skills and then Race Training.

If you are interested in the RS FEVA let me know as i am putting a deal together with RS at the moment and you maybe able to take advantage of a good price.

thanks

WELL DONE

Published by under Cadets,Club Notices

well done to the 147 cadets and their respective parents for a tremendously well supported and appreciated Cadet Week 2010.
TBYC at its very best.
The enthusiasm is truly infectious with the behaviour and politeness of our Cadets being first class.
Special Thanks to the Group Leaders, Racing Sharks Ian Little & Rupert Snow, Barracudas Mike Thomason, Stingrays Mark Petty-Mayor, these guys with their respective helpers take on a huge responsibility and are tasked to ensure an enjoyable week on the water and as usual surpassed expectation.
Beverly Warrington once again stepped into the breach as director of operations with all the deserved plaudits.
There are many parents who helped all the above achieve the weeks full programme of events from refuelling in the Bosuns Hut to Road Crossing Patrols which are vital to the safety of our Cadets as young as 4 years.
Final thank you to all those without Cadets doing the week who still took a weeks holiday out from work or retirement to help and all the effort really ensures a good future for both our Club and Sport of Sailing.

many thanks to you all,

Peter
