Duty swap 31 August

Published by under Duties

Can anyone swap my rescue boat duty on 31 August for any date thereafter. I go away on 24th August for a week and won’t be back in time. For ages I knew I was paired with Russell Tredget on Seasafe 3 and knew it was 2nd August,  I hadn’t noticed the identical pairing and boat applied for the 31st as well until that duty. There is a fallback option if no-one can swap – but a swap would be best.

Hurricanes Away at Canvey Open

Published by under Catamarans

Last weekend saw tough sailing conditions at the Canvey Hurricane Open, with gusts reaching 25 + kts and confused seas.

On the Friday, three TBYC boats were hoping to do 7 mile delivery trip to the Island SC but common sense prevailed as the Southerly gusting F6 winds battered the shoreline. Instead Pete, Wayne and myself decided it was perfect to take my old day boat out for a sail on the R. Crouch. With a ton of lead in her long keel, we blasted up wind with water everywhere, what fun.

Saturday morning in better sailing conditions, four Hurricanes left TBYC to race in the Open meeting at Canvey, first start @ 12.30pm. We left the beach in a SW, F4-5 and within 25 minutes arrived safely at Canvey. For those who don’t really know the Island Yacht Club, it’s based at the East end of Canvey on a mud flat, I mention this as I had forgot to raise my rudders and dagger boards on the way in to the slipway. It was when Wayne, my crew said that the sailors coming out to meet us were only up to their ankles (F**k**G Sh*t) It was mention later that nobody had seen a Hurricane do12 kts land yachting for a while. Duty Swap

Published by under Duties

Hi,

Would anyone be able to swap rescue boat duty with me on Monday 25th August on SS3?  I’ve just realised I’m getting married that weekend so if someone could swap places with me it would be much appreciated (rescue boat duty that is!)

either drop me a note on here or my email address is [email protected] or my mobile is 07899811454 I’m pretty much free most weekends except Sunday 21st September.

Cheers Jess

Slipway Promises Auction

Published by under Social

Come on folks, this is not e-bay, get those bids in now.  There was never a finer cause and never more generous promises.  We need to donate lots of money to get this done, so get something out of it!

For heavens sake someone outbid me on Chris.  I cannot take another afternoon’s personal abuse about my crewing skills.

Sandhopper Open

Published by under Racing,Sandhoppers

The Sandhopper open was combined this year with the TBYC regatta, 21 sandhoppers competed over the two day event consisiting of 4 races, the weather was forecast for 17mph for both days however it turned out nearer 25 with upto 38mph gusts.

The first race started in 30mph plus providing a long wave battering windward leg, windrush was first to the mark closely followed by little wing and sand star, the dead run proved to be very exciting with windrush staying in top spot to take 1st positon followed by sand star in 2nd squiffy 3rd and satisfaction 4th. Hurricane & F18 Crews wanted

Published by under Catamarans

Sounds like a WW2 call-up to save “Blighty”. Have you noticed that all these fast boats have names resembling aircraft form the War, F18, Spitfire, Tornado, Hurricane etc. Makes you proud to sail one, if the dart 15s where named Mosquito, we would have a squadron. Any way I digress, I have been asked recently to find crews for fast cats recently, so if anybody fancies a sail on a quick boat, please get in touch or put your name and contact details on the Cat notice board. Many thanks Struan.

Club Pico’s

Published by under Monohulls

As previously announced we are pleased to have replaced the 3 club pico’s with new ones. We are still waiting for the boat covers which should be with us early next week. Until we get these and in order to keep the boats secure the pico’s will not be available for use this weekend. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause if you were planning to use a club pico this weekend.
