Committee Boat Replacement
Today i am very pleased to say TBYC has purchased a replacement for our Committee Boat. After an extensive research programme undertaken kindly by Simon Boygle we have opted for a dual purpose second hand Prout Event 34 Sailing Catamaran. With a few minor modifications she is ready to go as Race Control with the added benefit to TBYC of being able to offer Sail Training outside of Race times.
We have had two extensive viewings with the good and great of TBYC coming together to execute this purchase in a timely and professional manor.
Toby Speller Rear Com Racing sourced the new boat for which i thank him once again for his outstanding dedication to Sailing at TBYC and continuing to build the solid foundations for the future.
Today Toby took along an impossing group of skills from TBYC with Gordon Sanders extensive knowledge of all things marine and mechanical, David Johnson to keep us laughing and of course his neverending knowledge of boats their construction and glue! Barry Duce to ask all the right questions, Paul Clarke our Treasurer at the end of the phone with the balls to say ok to £50k leaving the bank, Colin our independant Marine Surveyor and French Marine for supplying Steve to do the engine test.
we hope to have the new boat within the next few weeks where we will have an official launch of our fabulous new asset.
Thanks once again to those on the Committees and those close to the Committees who have given their valued input in this project.
This is a Race Station with the creature comforts fit for the 21st century and a great place to spend a few hours officiating, i hope through your volunteering you get to enjoy our new asset.
thanks again to all involved, please see Barry Duce’s video taken today,

Great news! when can we strip her out and make it ligher, on a lighter note, no pun intended, if this boat is to be used for sail training when not in use as a race committee boat ??. Will have to conform to MCA code of practice etc.etc. and run by a qualified skipper who is insured. Yachtmaster etc. Looking forward to a sail. Struan
thanks for the comments Struan, if we were running paid courses or RYA courses then you are quite correct we would need MCA coding, fortunately for TBYC we have sail training guru Mike Thomason who wrote the current sail training programme uniquely for TBYC and runs totally voluntarily and astonishingly in this world without cost thus avoiding any unecessary red tape and we are covered by our member to member club insurance.
Interestingly the boat is up to spec for MCA coding having done the ARC race and the Surveyor is also a Coding certificator who was very impressed with our purchase and the Yacht club as a whole.
looking forward to testing your Yachtmaster skills,
kind regards
Peter
Andrew,
is this back to your youth with Rochford slang??
i can confirm it has sat nav and a welcoming heads.
kind regards
Peter
I’m sure the club will have hours of fun, Can i have bumpers fitted all round, you know how I love hitting things. Must look out my Yachtmaster havn’t used it in years, god! those were the days i had time to play. Best regards Struan.
Well done guys another mile stone legacy for the future can’t wait to see it!!!
Steve
Will the sail training include Yachtmaster??? If so I may have to borrow it for 5000 hours.!!!!!!.
Are you going to paint the whole thing red?
Hello Steve,
yes, we are having some fibreglass work done this week on the keels to give a sacrificial strip for taking the ground at Thorpe Bay and have been lucky enough to secure a space at short notice at the International Paints spray booth. so as not to tread on the toes of any ongoing workparty enjoyment by the Albacores it will need a flat and polish this winter,
kind regards
Peter
Peter, the side decks look a bit narrow for a policeman. Does that mean race officers will need to be a size 8 wetsuit boot, or less? Talking of which……..
Well done everybody on Pete’s watch, what a brilliant find Toby.
It looks a great replacement for SS4, but can we honestly see the race officers leaving the comfort of the saloon to finish the racing though? I assume finishers will have to knock, wait and enter?
