    Applicant must be deaf, a self elected mute, thick skinned, prepared to take all the blame, have a warped sense of humour, strong as an ox, nimble as a ballarina, not have an opinion, be ready to scrub the bottom each week, swim in light airs, eat lots of pies in strong winds, know the racing rules from 1975, have the eyesight of a fighter pilot, the navigation skills of a gps, a wind guru,
    and know the theme tune to the muppets 🙂

    Without doubt a great opportunity for the right person to learn from an accomplished helm of many years experience in many different craft. I am sure Robin will be a very strong contender for top spot in next seasons races. These opportunities don’t come along every day to enjoy first class racing at the sharp end of the fleets, i look forward to hearing who the lucky person is,

    Looks to me to be a great opportunity for somebody, not everyday a position at the sharp end of a competitive boat is on offer. Robin has a wealth of experience over many years and having just quietly entered the Sandhopper class with his new boat is sure to be a hot contender for the top position in the fleet next season.
    I doubt you can read a book and become a good racer but i’m sure whoever is lucky enough to gain this position will undoubtedly become a better sailor by learning the skills from Robin.

    Hi Robin,

    I may have a suitable crew for you. He’s a very experienced sailor, having sailed in dinghies. He is a useful spinnaker hand, and has a good knowledge of the rules. He is a doctor and served on the sailing committee during the club’s heyday, under Kit Hobday. Importantly, he is also willing to scrub, which is one of the criteria mentioned by Barry.

    I haven’t seen him at the club in recent months. But you will recognise him because he wears a distinctive bobble hat. In his spare time, he likes to scrub the slipway.
